How to Improve Your English!
SPANISH pupils from the 3rd year of Los Cardones Secondary School, near San Isidro, recently enjoyed a practical exercise in English conversation with a difference. It took place at Amarilla Golf, and the idea was for students to conduct interviews with the English-speaking club members who had just finished their rounds in a competition specially organised for that day. In addition to the interviews, the students were given an introductory golf clinic in both English and Spanish by local professional Javier Toll. They were also shown around the course by bilingual coursemarshallJose Lorenzo, and the students then had to write a full report on the day – in English! The visit was co-ordinated by the school’s English teacher, Selene Fuentes, and English conversation assistant David Britton, who is a member of the golf club. A trophy awarded for the best English report went to Barbara Rachel Garcia and Jennifer Alma Torres. Club Captain Ian Sharp attended the school to make the presentation in front of the girls’ fellow students during their Canarian Day celebrations.
